Online Foundation Work

Program Preparation

Pre-departure Work Being prepared for your academic adventure is critical to a successful MEI summer. On March 1st, we begin our educational journey by posting reading lists for each course on your program site. Having a reading list allows students to access novels, short stories, and textbooks in plenty of time to get acquainted with the course material. Online Pre-departure Sessions Before departure, you will have online sessions with your teachers and classmates. These online sessions introduce you to your classmates, teachers, and coursework. We aim to prepare you to hit the ground running and reduce your workload onsite. Each course has approximately ten hours of class preparation time; this schedule will be posted on your course site.

Toronto

Day 1–2: To begin our journey, we commence in the heart of Toronto’s financial district in the boardroom of Caldwell Securities. We get our first taste of what it takes to build a thriving organization as we shake hands with some of Bay Street’s most influential players.

New York City

Day 2–7: From Toronto, we travel to the heart of Manhattan, New York City. We'll plunge into the world of Big Business at the New York Stock Exchange, feeling the pulse of global finance. New York serves not just as a backdrop but as a live case study, with lectures zeroing in on real estate and the global financial markets. This bustling metropolis sets the stage for our first of four high-stakes business competitions.

Munich

Day 7–15: In Munich, we delve into the city's dynamic history and stature as a current economic titan. Our journey centers on the German entrepreneurial spirit, observing how businesses navigate today's challenging economy amidst the Ukraine-Russia conflicts. We'll explore how brands like Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and BMW helped Munich emerge as a post-WWII global leader, setting benchmarks in luxury and quality. Here, you'll engage in our second competition: exploring the city to craft a world-class business concept.

Swiss Alps

Day 15–19: As we head to the top of Europe, we have a chance to gear down and re-energize in the Swiss village of Mürren. We balance our days with mountain hikes, one-on-one academic time, and fireside podcasts. This essential break affords us the time to clear our minds to refine trading skills, craft our investment portfolios and work with our individual teams to prepare for your next pitch presentation.

Milan

Day 19–25: Milan, a global fashion powerhouse, is where we'll immerse ourselves in the world of luxury brands like Armani, Prada, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana. We'll dissect marketing strategies and branding, exploring how social media and AI amplify product value. We focus on distinguishing elite fashion from fast fashion and unraveling the intricacies of the "brand economy." Here, we'll unveil the savvy business acumen orchestrating Milan's opulence and luxury.

Online Final Evaluation Week

Online Post-trip SessionsUpon your return, you will have time to complete additional research and your Independent Study Unit (ISU) presentation. This time allows you to reflect on and integrate your travel experiences into the course material. The MEI staff have found this evaluation style enjoyable and the most authentic way for students to demonstrate their knowledge and academic skills. After your ISU, you will complete your course exams online. Once your marks have been reviewed, MEI Academy will send your report card and transcript to your home school to add to your academic records.
